Lesson 135: Blessed are the pure in heart

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”  (Matthew 5:8)

We will not attempt a character sketch of a person in the Bible to illustrate what it looks like to have a pure heat, because only Jesus meets that qualification!

Instead, we will illustrate the concept with a demonstration by making pure water from very unclean water by the process of distillation.  This process is an amazing metaphor for the saving work God does by purifying our hearts through the power of Jesus’ shed blood.  We will start by making some VERY dirty water by adding “poop” and heating it to a brown soup.  This is a visual illustration of our hearts without Jesus.

Once the poop is mixed in at that level, there is really no simple way to remove it.  The same is true for sin in our hearts; only Jesus’ blood can cleanse us.

In the demonstration, the poop will be removed by heating the ‘soup’ to boiling and allowing it to re-condense in a clean container to produce crystal clear pure water.
